Call Names:  Winnie, Weiner, Baboo
Official Name:  Lady Winifred of Simpson CD CGC

Born:  March 29, 1990
Died:  April 10, 2004

Winnie was our first family basset hound.  She was purchased from Paul Richardson, formerly of Acton, Massachusetts, who raised pet bassets.  I guess today he’d be called a backyard breeder but the dogs and puppies were well cared for and healthy.

There was never a sweeter, kinder basset hound than Winnie.  Gentle with adults and children she got along with everyone and calmly ruled our household until the very latter years of her life.  Long before Therapy Dog programs were established I would take Winnie to local nursing homes and veterans facilities to spread the joy of dogs to all.

Winnie introduced us to the wide range of canine sports.  She was the first dog that I trained and she earned by the AKC Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) certificate and then the much more difficult AKC Companion Dog (CD) title.  She was also a member of the PawSteps canine dance group and had her only solo (with me) to the tune of Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog.”
